Here are three in-demand manufacturing and distribution jobs that can jumpstart your career.

CNC Machinist

If you enjoy math and science, as well as working with your hands, a CNC machinist position might be an excellent fit for you. You’ll be responsible for operating computer numerical controlled (CNC) precision instruments, such as lathes, presses, and drills. This includes using computer software to accurately program each task, as well as closely monitoring the machines during operation and evaluating quality control of the results.

As a sort of jack-of-all-trades on the manufacturing floor, your duties will vary based on business needs. In general, you’ll be responsible for turning machines on and off each day, scheduling routine maintenance, ordering and organization of production materials, and packaging finished products.

This can be an entry-level position, although in some cases, companies prefer some type of manufacturing experience. You’ll need good organizational skills, attention to detail, general knowledge of the machinery used in production, and an understanding of relevant health and safety laws.
