Job Description

We are currently seeking CDL Drivers for a Direct Placement position with our client’s team of experienced professionals located in Pickens County, SC.
The primary role of this position is to operate a tractor /trailer in the transportation of solid waste materials from the County landfill to regional landfill sites, and to perform other work as required. This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

•Operates tractor-trailer trucks of all sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various solid waste materials.
•Operates heavy equipment such as a bulldozer, front-end loader and compactor to excavate landfill site, to transport solid waste materials, and to spread and compact layers of waste and earth cover.
•Examines cargo to ensure compliance with department and government regulations.
•Paints recycling containers, buildings and other structures; performs routine carpentry, electrical and plumbing work as required.
•Performs general grounds keeping duties at department facilities.
•Operates transfer station and/or landfill as needed.
•Inspects equipment to ensure proper and safe working condition; reports defects or required maintenance to the supervisor.
•Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment; performs minor repairs, including welding work; reports defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
•Uses hand and power tools in various manual tasks as required.
•Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
•Attends training as required to enhance job knowledge and skills.
•Requires comparing or inspecting items against a standard.
•Requires speaking or signaling to people to convey or exchange information of a general nature.
•Requires leading, operating or repairing complex machinery or equipment that requires extended training and experience, such as trucks and heavy construction / specialized equipment. Involves operations of limited scope.
•Requires performing skilled work involving rules/systems with almost constant problem-solving.
•Requires using basic addition and subtraction, such as making change or measuring.
•Requires reading routine sentences, instructions, regulations, procedures or work orders; writing routine sentences and completing routine job forms and incident reports; speaking routine sentences using proper grammar.
•Requires doing clerical, manual or technical tasks prescribed by standard practices but which may require computation, the use of several procedures, and the use of independent judgments with obvious choices; requires normal attention for accurate results.


Requirements:

•Requires high school diploma, GED equivalent or specialized vocational training.
•Must possess a valid state CDL driver’s license with appropriate endorsements.
•Requires heavy work that involves constantly lifting, pushing or raising objects, exerting between 50 and 75 pounds of force on a recurring basis and over 100 pounds of force on a frequent basis.
•The job may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, toxic/caustic chemicals.
•Requires over two years and up to and including four years.
