GREENVILLE, SC – Phillips Staffing fielded a team of company associates, clients, and friends to take on the 2011 Spinx Run Fest in Greenville, SC, on October 29, 2011. With a goal of promoting wellness as well as supporting organizations in the community, the Phillips team raised over $2,500 in contributions in conjunction with the event, to be donated to Meals on Wheels of Greenville County, the Greenville Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Foundation, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Four runners competed in the Half Marathon, six others tried the “Big Punkin” 5K race, and one hearty soul took on the full 26.2-mile Marathon. The weather was chilly, but it was a beautiful fall day, and everyone enjoyed their jaunts through the streets of Greenville!
Phillips Staffing’s Pat Fountain ran the full Marathon in a time of 4:14, a personal best for Pat by over 15 minutes. Pat, who is VP of Operations for Phillips, has run five marathons and also has competed in triathlons.
The Half-Marathoners included Caroline Calder of Phillips, who finished 3rd in her age group. Also running the 13.1-mile trek were Stephanie Hamby of Phillips, running in her first ever half-marathon; April Huttunen of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System; and Rita Revels of Schaeffler Group, who beat her previous best Spinx time by ten minutes!
Jad Anthony, Tracey Lell, Ed Parris, Blanton Phillips, and Melissa Singleton of Phillips, and John Hart of Hartness International, competed in the Big Punkin’ 5K, where they had to contend with the likes of Shrek, Spiderman, and various other Halloween costumed characters through the 3.1-mile course. Everyone who competed had a fun and rewarding experience, with two of our team – Jad Anthony and John Hart – finishing in less than 30 minutes.
Phillips Staffing especially thanks those who donated to this effort, including our corporate partners, A/R Funding, Wells Fargo Insurance Services, First Citizens Bank, Assured Benefits, Horton Law Firm, TPM, Inc., and CareerBuilder. Phillips greatly appreciates their generous support!
All monies collected are going to worthy recipients:
· Meals-On-Wheels of Greenville County – enhances the quality of life of homebound individuals by providing nutritious meals, personal contact, and related services.
· Greenville Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Foundation – provides education and training for HR professionals and student scholarships
· Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization – the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
Phillips Staffing promotes wellness and physical fitness by encouraging its associates and friends to participate in fitness and athletic events such as the Spinx Run Fest, as well as company-sponsored contests and incentives to encourage active, healthy lifestyles. The company held its first ever “Phillips Phitness Challenge” in 2011 and plans to have future similar initiatives in the future.
The Spinx Run Fest was held for the 7th year in Greenville. Over 2,500 runners participated in the full day of events, with 436 in the marathon, 1,269 in the half marathon, and 935 in the 5K race.
